Basic Tourist Entry Information

Traveling to Puerto Rico involves more than just boarding a plane or a boat and touching down in paradise, so the Puerto Rico tourist must be aware of the travel requirements. In order to travel to Puerto Rico and back, there are a few requirements that every Puerto Rico tourist must have, including the proper visa, entry information, and passport papers. If you are unfamiliar with the travel requirements, keep reading the appropriate sections below.

Puerto Rican Visa Information

As a United States citizen you are exempt from needing the Puerto Rico visa for tourism. A United States citizen can travel in and out of Puerto Rico without having to deal with customs or immigration officials, and all you will need is a valid photo identification, including a driver’s license, a state ID, or a valid passport. Citizens of other countries need to take the same steps to prepare for Puerto Rico entry as they would for entry into the United States, including a 90-day temporary visa.

Puerto Rico Entry Information

To enter or exit Puerto Rico, the tourist from outside the United States must have a valid passport and provide evidence of return travel, or onward travel from their tourist location. After being granted admission into Puerto Rico, tourists may apply for an extended visa if they wish to extend the trip or visit. Puerto Rico entry will be granted to the tourist from the United States with simply the aforementioned photo identification.

Passport Information

Any United States citizen can apply for a United States passport online, but if you do happen to lose your passport, or if it is stolen during your trip to Puerto Rico, you can replace it at the American embassy, but again a passport is not required for tourists from the United States, and neither is the Puerto Rico visa required, as long as the tourist can present a valid United States-issued photo identification.
