Vaccinations necessary to Travel Puerto Rico
Planning a Puerto Rican holiday or adventure? Great choice, considering the rich green countryside that you will experience. To make your trip replete with great memories, first, list out all the necessary vaccinations for your Puerto Rican sojourn.
Puerto Rican Vaccinations
Diseases like typhoid and Jaundice (Hepatitis A) can spread through food and water. Guard yourself against them. If you are less than 52 years old, you must take 2 doses of MMR to protect against mumps, measles and Rubella. DPT (diphtheria- pertussis-tetanus) vaccines are recommended for repetition after every 10 years.
Depending on the nature of your visit, you may like to check with your doctor regarding vaccinations against Hepatitis B. If there is likelihood of intimate relations with the local residents or of medical treatment, this vaccination could save your life. Hepatitis B spreads through blood and bodily fluids, shared needles and intimacy.
Your travel may take you to areas with compromised sanitation levels; guard yourself against poliovirus by getting this vaccination. If your trip involves contact with animals, for example, vets or wildlife professionals who travel to places and face a high degree of exposure to animals, include the rabies vaccination in your Puerto Rican vaccination plan.
Medication
Carry Over-the-Counter medication for diarrhea. Don’t forget to carry your prescription drugs in their original packaging in sufficient quantity. You may not get these drugs where you go. Carry them in your hand baggage and follow security guidelines for liquids.
Other items you must consider carrying to fortify the effect of the Puerto Rican Vaccination plan. A small water filter and a few iodine tablets can do the trick of providing you with potable water in places where safe bottled water is scarce. To beat the heat and UV rays, sunglasses and sun block are a necessary addition.
Carry anti-bacterial disposable hand towels for your protection. Counter dengue and malaria by arming yourself with anti-insect/mosquito creams and sprays.
