Puerto Ricans and the Tourists

Puerto Rico tourist locations are becoming more and more popular as the region opens itself up to the market of tourism. The tropical island of Puerto Rico has been famous for years for its beautiful coasts, its mountain regions, and its unique culture, so it is no surprise that the region is becoming one of the top tourist vacation spots in the world. Just a hundred miles long and thirty-five miles wide, the area is located in the center of the Antilles island region. With little more than three-and-a-half million residents, the “Island of Enchantment” offers plenty of room for vacation and tourism throughout the country, though most of its tourism is centered in San Juan. Before you become the newest tourist in Puerto Rico, make sure you research when to go and the best places to visit, including

When To Go in Puerto Rico

The most popular time to visit the island of Puerto Rico is between December and April. While this has more to do with the climate of the United States than that of Puerto Rico, it is also due, in part, to the fact that the seasons between May and November coincide with the hurricane season.

The Northern Region

Containing the capital of the island, every tourist in Puerto Rico should make a trip to the northern region of the island. San Juan, the capital, is the most populated city on the island holding over a quarter of the islands entire population. The region contains many popular tourist locations including the historic Old San Juan district, the Arecibo observatory, the Guajataca State Forest, and Condado Beach. With twenty cities and numerous tourist attractions, the northern region of the island is very attractive to the Puerto Rico tourist.

The Eastern Region

The eastern region of the island is best known for the Caribbean National Forest, which is a popular tourist location for not just the Puerto Rico tourist, but to anyone visiting the Caribbean region. Known also as El Yunque, the Caribbean National Forest is located about twenty-five miles southeast of San Juan, but that is not all the region has to offer. If you are looking for beautiful, lightly-traveled beaches and fantastic views, you could check out the outer-lying islands Vieques and Culebra. Plus, when you are finished sunbathing and checking out the beautiful sites above the water, these areas offer some of the best snorkeling services in the western hemisphere, so you can check out the sites underneath the water as well. This region is becoming more and more popular with almost every tourist in Puerto Rico.

The Central Region

Including the Cordillera Central, this region has a cooler climate and more rainfall than the rest of the country making the region the center of agriculture on the island. Still the region has many tourist hotspots, including the caves in Ciales, Montoso Gardens, Caguana Indian Ceremonial Park, and Toro Negro Forest Reserve. While this region isn’t for the typical Puerto Rico tourist, the region does have incredible wilderness and amazing waterfalls, while providing a serene atmosphere for ultimate relaxation and meditation.

The Western Region

With a seemingly endless coastline and many of the island’s top beaches, it is no secret that the western region is popular amongst tourists. If you like sunny skies, the ocean, and water sports, the western region is definitely the place for you. Every typical tourist in Puerto Rico would enjoy this location, and it lends itself beautifully to the tourist market.

The Southern Region

Lastly, the southern region is home to Ponce, the capital of the island back when Puerto Rico was under Spanish control. While the region is full of exemplary architecture and rich in heritage, the hot and humid temperatures make it easily the driest part of the island, averaging just over 35 inches of rainfall per year. Top tourist spots in this region include the Museo de Arte de Ponce and the Aguirre Forrest Reserve.

Whether it’s the culture, the attractions, or the climate that brings you to Puerto Rico, the rest of the island will keep you coming back. No matter what it is you are looking for during your vacation to Puerto Rico, the island has many attractions and the perfect location for every tourist.
