The Puerto Rican economy is primarily agrarian. Dairy, poultry, vegetables, cereals and coffee are grown indigenously but they are not sufficient to satisfy local demand. Most other items like fuel and clothes and other everyday items are much cheaper here, making it attractive for those retiring in Puerto Rico.

The temperature is even for most part of the year, neither too hot nor too cold. Expenses on air conditioning and internal heating are spared. Apart from San Juan, the cost of living in Puerto Rico is lower when compared to other cities of America. Property prices and rents are very low and there is no property tax.
