When people think of going to Puerto Rico, they usually think of visiting the country’s capital of San Juan, but the island holds another great destination, too. Ponce, which is located on the south side of Puerto Rico, is the second largest city on the island and offers some great opportunities for vacationers. All you need to do is book flights to Ponce and you can be experiencing everything the city has to offer for yourself.

Affordable Ponce Flights

Ponce flights normally come through the Mercedita International Airport. Although the airport is relatively small with only one runway, the amount of air traffic it sees is pretty impressive and has increased rapidly as tourism to the city becomes more popular.

If you want to reach Ponce quickly, the best option is to take a ride on one of the JetBlue flights to Ponce from the JFK International Airport in New York or from Orlando International Airport in Florida. These Ponce flights are non-stop so you don’t have to worry about layovers. You can get to the city and start enjoying it quickly.

Some travelers prefer to arrive in San Juan by plane and spend time enjoying the capital before taking a Cape Air intra-island flight to Ponce.

Enjoying Ponce

Once you've have arrived in the city, you can enjoy some of the wonderful things the city has to offer. For example, you can take a ferry to Caja de Muertos which is a very secluded area of beach that you can explore without the crowds on the main beaches. You can also go snorkeling off the coast of the island, too.

Most of what you see and do in the city is going to focused around the Plaza las Delicias which is the main city square. This is, for example, where you’re going to find Ponce’s most noticeable landmark: the Parque de Bombas. This building used to be the fire station but now it’s a tourist information center that really stands out visually thanks to its black and red stripes.

You can also visit some of the cities museums or enjoy the architecture which was heavily inspired by the style of Barcelona, Spain. Before you leave on your Ponce flights, you should take the tourist train that will show you around the downtown area. It’s a great way to take some amazing photographs of the city before you depart.
